NYDA®

Why NYDA?Head louse on a hair

NYDA® is effective

NYDA® is designed to eradicate head lice and their eggs in a single application. It is a simple-to-use treatment that is scientifically proven to kill head lice in one minute and eggs in eight hours with minimal side-effects1,2,3,4,4a,5.

NYDA® works because, if properly applied, it kills head lice and their eggs, thus breaking
the louse lifecycle.
Its 92% Dimeticone Dual Formula acts physically, suffocating head lice
and their eggs 1,2,3,4,4a,5.

Use of Dimeticone does not lead to resistance to treatment in the same way as
neuro-toxic-acting pesticides5 such as Phenothrin, Malathion and Permethrin.
(As many as 80% of lice are found to be resistant to pesticides such as Malathion
and Permethrin7.)

NYDA® is approved for NHS prescribing

In April 2011 NYDA® (92% Dimeticone Dual Formula) – which is already the market leader in Germany6 – was:
  • accepted onto the Appliances Section of the NHS Drug Tariff
  • included on the Scottish National Minor Ailments Formulary.

  • It can be prescribed by:
  • GP’s
  • Nurse Practitioners**
  • Health Visitors**
  • Supplementary Prescribing Pharmacists**

  • in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In 2011, NYDA® was the first head lice treatment to receive NHS approval for prescribing in more than four years, NYDA® is recognised for its exceptional pediculicidal and ovicidal efficacy 1,2,3,4,4a,5.

Considering their ovicidal and pediculicidal efficacy, good safety profile and the physical mode of action that makes the development of resistance unlikely, the emergence of high concentration dimeticones can be considered a new era of head lice treatment. 17.

NYDA® follows BNF recommendations

NYDA® follows the recommendations of the British National Formulary (BNF) on treating headlice :

“Head lice infestation (pediculosis) should be treated using lotion or liquid formulations only if live lice are present. Shampoos are diluted too much in use to be effective. A contact time of 8–12 hours or overnight treatment is recommended for lotions and liquids; a 2-hour treatment is not sufficient to kill eggs. In general, a course of treatment for head lice should be 2 applications of product 7 days apart to kill lice emerging from any eggs that survive the first application.”

NYDA®, designed to eradicate lice and their eggs (nits) in a single application, can achieve at least 94.5% efficacy in one application, but parents should check their child’s hair again 8-10 days after the initial application and treat again with NYDA┬« if they find lice or nits.
